Driving along the Red Lodge-Cooke City Highway (a.k.a. Beartooth Highway) is always a delight for me and Brett to do because of the beautiful scenery all around.

One of these wonderful views is Twin Lakes that we passed by on our way to Yellowstone.

These deep blue bodies of water, sitting on the base of the Bear Mountains, are an inspiring sight to look at for the landscape surrounding them, complete with forests and rock formations.

As I took the photo, wanting to keep for myself this wonderful memory, I chanced upon a perfect view; clear blue sky (with some patch of clouds), the majestic mountain range on the horizon, and the twin lakes below.

If you’re going to want to see this view for yourself, shortly after the state line, watch for a turnout on the west side of the road -the right side, if you’re headed towards Yellowstone.

This section is one of the most beautiful views to capture, but you might not be able to locate it through your phone and easily drive by it so you have to drive slowly to see the place.

For those who are into hiking, there is a worn trail circling the lake, which leads to the outlet stream and variable fishing spots around the lake. To reach the upper lake you’ll probably want to cross the outlet stream.

It’s also necessary to know the weather conditions and proceed with caution or wait altogether if it’s a snowstorm.

The weather can change on a dime and temporarily shut down the Beartooth Highway, so check with the National Weather Service before you hit the road.

Nevertheless, the Twin Lakes at Beartooth Mountain is a sight you shouldn’t miss when passing by this highway.
