I love shooting events. I was asked several times this week what kind of photography I enjoyed. I love shooting amazing landscapes and wildlife (who doesn’t!) I have a new love for street photography. I love pet portraits. When you ask most professional photographers this same question, event photography is last on their list. Me, I LOVE events, always have. I loved attending them, working at them in different ways professionally over the years, even putting on my own events. So it isn’t all that surprising that I love events as a photographer. No, you can’t control the light. It involves looooong hours on your feet in often times outdoor conditions that are far from ideal and with back to back days. Then you figure out your pay per hour…However, for me, as long as you are working events you enjoy, with people you love, it is just about the challenge of capturing a fraction of the feeling of being there at the event, whether it is a concert, wedding, car show, festival, parade or rally. Had a wonderful meeting today about how to capture the magic that will happen in the middle of the dessert in the southwest in January. Do what you love and you won’t work a day of your life.
