Saguaro National Park, located near Tucson, Arizona, is named for its mighty Saguaro Cactus. But those who dare to look a little closer will find a plethora of cactus, desert plants, and animals that are popping with color in the Spring. 🌵
The spring flowering season in this area of the Sonoran Desert is from mid-February to mid-June, with a peak from mid-March to late April, depending on rainfall and temperatures during the growing season.
Trying to time a photo like this where the Ocotillos are bursting with bright orange blooms and the yellow flowers of the Brittlebrush are covering the ground like a yellow blanket can be tricky.
Saguaro National Park is broken up into two sections. Luckily, It is a short drive for me to the West Loop, where this image was captured on a day in late March, shortly after some rain.
The sounds of the birds chirping, the Little Striped Whiptail Lizards scurrying, and the desert cottontail rabbits dashing through the landscape create a symphony of not only colors but sounds of life in the Spring.
For some years, drought has caused these plants to not bloom as full or as bright.
I was very happy to be able to see a bloom like this one.
