What stories could those walls tell? Standing at the base of the Colorado State Capitol my attention quickly shifted to the brooding sky above. The clouds made the Colorado State Capitol look very much like a scene from a movie. The gold dome which was usually gleaming seemed to be weighed down by the dark cloud, giving an air of thrill and mystery to the grandeur of the Denver structure.
I could not help but get a shiver down my spine. Not from the cold but from the authority of the Capitol. The tall pine trees beside the structure seemed to bow in readiness to share the untold stories of Colorado. It really seemed as if each and every corner had its own tale to tell.
I placed my camera, preparing it on the stairs going to the main entrance. It was not my first time shooting the Capitol, but this kind of shot was new to me. Today, the building seemed to have a voice of its own, amplified by the gloomy sky. I aimed to capture not just the building but the mood, the history, and the centuries it represents.
Click. As the shutter of the camera clicked, I felt like I was an integral part of the Capitol. I imagined the governors, decisions made, and demonstrations held in and around the building. With each shot, I found myself being more in touch with the spirit of Denver, Colorado.
Lights around the Capitol turned on and their beams fell on the grass creating shadows. The light seemed to battle the darkness, just as the building had fought for its existence. Even on rainy days, it stands as a testament to the community’s strength, the past, and our defining stories.
