Antelope Island State Park is a natural haven in Utah’s Great Salt Lake and is a sanctuary for an array of wildlife. But amidst its vast landscapes, it was a small, yet extraordinary creature that captured my heart – the Wandering Glider, scientifically known as Pantala flavescens.
This dragonfly, the Pantala flavescens, is a marvel of nature. This tiny aviator, no more than a whisper in the wind, holds the record for the longest migration of any dragonfly. Imagine a creature so light, yet embarking on journeys spanning thousands of miles across oceans and continents.
There I was on Antelope Island, surrounded by the grandeur of nature, when this Wandering Glider made its appearance.
