I couldn’t believe my luck happening upon the mighty Vikings stadium one night with nobody around. The incredible design like a Vikings Ship is one to behold. It is an extreme source of pride in the Twin Cities, as are our Vikings.
What draws you attention when you stand next to a large building like the U.S. Bank Stadium? Is it the enormous size or something more detailed? Interestingly, for me, the glistening geometry of the U.S. Bank Stadium’s glass structure struck me. As a photographer, this structure wasn’t just a mere subject for my photograph. It was like a character, a hero of sorts. All around me shone the glass panels which continually created interesting patterns and angles to explore.
I walked aimlessly with my camera looking for the best angle. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the intricacies of a stadium like this. The distinctive glass edges that form its iconic shape brought to mind a Viking ship cutting through waves. That’s exactly what I saw—sharp, triangular sails reflecting the cityscape, like ripples on water. Crouching low to take a shot, I felt the energy of the place, even in its stillness.
The glass structure doesn’t just house events; it creates them. Each glass panel and angle connects with a deeper conversation between the stadium and the city. It creates a unique view of Minneapolis by framing the buildings behind it. Ultimately, the pointed edges of the glass sparkle, inviting you to continue looking and discover more.
Capturing this scene went beyond just getting a picture of an architecture. It was about capturing the character of U.S. Bank Stadium, tall and fierce like a Viking ship, showing Minnesota’s courage. As I walked away, I wondered how many people walked by without noticing the stunning balance of glass, steel, and sky. One can see it as a mere outdoor stadium, but through my camera, the scene transcended into something greater.
