For nine days in October, the skies over Albuquerque come alive with vibrant colors as over 500 balloons ascend from Balloon Fiesta Park. I have made sure when I am planning my travel to pass through Albuquerque at the same time as this incredible event.
The Balloon Fiesta is held just a few weeks before the much celebrated Day of The Dead. Commonly called by its Spanish name, Día de los Muertos is a vibrant Mexican holiday where families honor and celebrate the lives of their deceased loved ones through colorful altars, festive gatherings, and traditional customs. It’s not not spooky or eerie, but it is very special and means a lot to so many.
As I stood beneath the multitudes of hot air balloons, I was in awe and wonder as a colorful sugar skull, the symbol of Dia de los Muertos, hot air balloon fills the peaceful Albuquerque sky, transforming an ordinary moment into a celebration of life and art?
