Picture this – golden sands, the gentle sound of waves lapping at the shore, and the warm Hawaiian sun painting the sky in shades of orange and pink as it sets. It was on one of these magical evenings that I had the privilege of encountering a truly remarkable creature – a majestic Sea Turtle, peacefully basking in the last rays of sunlight.
Turtles, my friend, are nothing short of amazing. These ancient creatures have been roaming our oceans for millions of years, surviving and thriving through all sorts of challenges and changes. Did you know that they can live for several decades and sometimes even up to a century? Talk about wisdom and resilience wrapped up in a beautiful shell!
But back to that beach in Maui. As a photographer, I couldn’t help but be captivated by this turtle’s serene presence. It was as if time stood still for a moment. I knew I had to capture this extraordinary moment in a way that did justice to the turtle’s uniqueness and the sheer awe it inspired.
I wanted my photo to tell a story. To make the turtle the hero, I decided to focus on its eye – the window to its soul, if you will. I got down low, really low, to capture a level of detail that might be overlooked. I wanted viewers to feel an intimate connection with this incredible creature, as if they could glimpse into its world.
The lighting was a challenge, of course, with the sun’s angle changing rapidly as it dipped towards the horizon. But that’s where experience comes in handy. I waited for that perfect moment when the sun’s warm glow kissed the turtle’s shell just right, creating a stunning play of light and shadows.
And there it was – my unique shot of a turtle on the beach. With the focus on its eye and the subtle interplay of light, I felt like I had successfully captured the essence of this beautiful being.
